May 13, 2019 – Infrastructure Project Public Meeting: Hog’s Back Bridge, 6:30pm, Carleton Heights Community Centre, 1665 Apeldoorn Avenue


Councillor Brockington is hosting a Public Information Session on Monday, May 13 at 6:30pm in the Carleton Heights Community Centre (Apeldoorn Avenue, just off Prince of Wales) to discuss the major rehabilitation work to commence in August 2019 on Hog's Back Bridge.
 

The NCC, Parks Canada, City of Ottawa Traffic Services and Emergency Services will be in attendance.

May 11, 2019 – Tree Giveaway, 9:00am-3:00pm, Various Locations

In conjunction with the South Nation Conservation Authority, on May 11, 2019, I will be giving away 500 tree seedlings. Please join me at the following locations and times:
 

· 9:00am-11:00am: Metro, Strandherd Crossing, 3201 Strandherd Drive

· 1:00pm-3:00pm: Claudette Cain Park, 660 River Road

May 11, 2019 – Bruce Pit: Dog Park Clean-Up, 9:30am-11:00am, Bruce Pit, 175 Cedarview Road


You are invited to join the Responsible Dog Owners of Canada (http://www.responsibledogowners.ca), in their annual Park Clean-Up Days in Ottawa area dog parks. 


During the morning we hand out bags & gloves to dog owners, who are the ones who do all the work picking up the garbage etc. Their reward is a much cleaner park, & their pups get dog cookies. Thank you to everybody who participates in these events.

May 11, 2019 – Hike for Hospice, 8:30am-Noon, Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive


Hospice Care Ottawa invites you to join them for the kick-off of their annual "Hike for Hospice". 


This fundraising event takes place on Saturday, May 11, 2019 from 8:30 AM to noon, and will be held at Carleton University, 1125 Colonel By Drive. The 5 km hike will originate at Field House and participants will walk the beautiful campus trails, returning back to the Field House for refreshments, entertainment & the Kids’ Zone!
 

Last year the Hike raised over $118,000 (net) in support of Hospice Care Ottawa and they hope to surpass that amount this year.
 

Hike for Hospice Schedule - Saturday, May 11, 2019:

· 8:30 AM – Registration

· 9:40 AM – Opening Ceremonies

· 10:00 AM – Hike begins followed by refreshments, music and the Kids’ Zone.


Hospice Care Ottawa is a community-based charitable organization. Events like Hike for Hospice enable them to offer palliative and end-of-life services to nearly 1,500 people annually across the whole Ottawa region. All services are offered at no charge to clients and their families, including bereavement care for those who are grieving the death of a loved one.

May 4, 2019 – Golden Garbage Can Award, Noon, Diamond Jubilee Park, White Alder Ave

On Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 12:00pm at the Diamond Jubilee Park, I will be presenting the winner of the Spring Clean-up between Riverside South and Findlay Creek with the Golden Garbage Can Award. Join us under the Adopt-a-Park sign for this event!


May 4, 2019 – Barrhaven Lions’ Annual Spring Fling Pancake Breakfast, 9:30am-12:#0pm, Fire Station #47, 3559 Greenbank Road


You are invited for a great breakfast with pancakes, sausages, eggs, beans, maple syrup, tea, coffee, and juice. Meet Ottawa Firefighters and tour a fire truck! There will also be face painting, balloon artist, and a puppet show.

 

Donations will be accepted for QuickStart Autism.

April 28, 2019 – Findlay Creek Community Spring Clean-up, 9:30am-11:00am, Diamond Jubilee Park, White Alder Ave


The Findlay Creek Community Association invites residents to take part in the Community Cleanup on Sunday, April 28, 2019 from 9:30am to 11:00am.
 

This event gets the community together to cleanup after the winter. Residents are asked to meet at the park where they are provided supplies and are assigned to different areas of the community. 


I have the honor to judge this event and determine which community collects the most garbage.
 

Let's see who can collect the most garbage, but most importantly let's keep our communities clean!


April 27, 2019 – Riverside South Community Spring Clean-up, 9:30am-2:00pm, 4310 Shoreline Drive


The Riverside South Community Association will be holding its annual Community Spring Cleanup on Saturday, April 27, 2019 from 9:30am to 2:00pm. They have a friendly challenge every year with the Findlay Creek Community Association on which community collects the most garbage.   


In addition to bragging rights, the community that collects the most garbage also is awarded the coveted ‘Golden Garbage Can’. I have the honor of judging this event.   


Join in on this day of fun, celebrate spring and help clean the community!

The Nepean, Rideau and Osgoode Community Resource Centre (NROCRC) will hosting their 8th Annual Shine a Light Gala on Saturday, April 27th, at 6:00 pm at the Centurion Conference and Event Center, 170 Colonnade Road.

April 24, 2019 - Celebrating Community Centred Well-Being


On April 24, 2019, between 4:30pm-8:00pm, at Jean Pigott Hall at City Hall (110 Laurier Ave W), please join the Community Development Framework (CDF) for their annual Learning Forum. This year's theme is Community Centred Well-Being.
 

They are highlighting the importance of community in advancing well-being by learning about creating community through:
 

· building good relations with Indigenous people, 

· businesses working with partner organizations, and

· increasing access to community space and improving community safety.
 

The Community Development Framework (CDF) is funded by the City of Ottawa and brings together residents, community organizations, and city services in priority, low-income neighbourhoods, suburbs and rural communities across Ottawa. 

 

The Framework is an approach that involves key stakeholders to help address issues identified by the community by providing resources and supporting residents to build on their strengths and further develop skills to make change happen locally and at the systems level.


April 20 to May 13, 2019 – Young at Art 2019, Atrium Gallery and Nepean Fine Arts League Gallery, 101 Centrepointe Drive


Young at Art 2019 is an exceptional opportunity for Ottawa visual artists between the ages of 12 and 20 to gain recognition for their artistic efforts and abilities within their communities through the experience of a citywide, juried art exhibition. Some of Ottawa’s best young artists will be recognized at Young at Art 2019 exhibitions, to be held at community galleries citywide. Come by the community exhibit and show your support and enjoy the work of these talented, young artists.


April 17, 2019 - Stonebridge Community Update Meeting


The SCA invites all Stonebridge residents to a community update meeting regarding the golf course development file. The meeting will be held at the Nepean Sportsplex on April 17th at 7 pm (Halls A + B) in order to accommodate the anticipated large crowd.  


The SCA has decided to call this meeting to allow the City to provide an in-person update on the recent change in direction that has occurred regarding talks with Mattamy and to get as many of your questions answered as possible.

In recognition of April being designated as Be A Donor Month in Ottawa, Deputy Mayor George Darouze's proclamation will be presented at a reception in the upstairs Community Room at Moncion’s Your Independent Grocer, 671 River Road, on April 7, between 2:00pm - 4:00pm.  Please join us for this important event!


April 6, 2019 - Court 101 Public Information Session

The Ottawa Police Service’s Community Engagement Team in partnership with The Diversity & Race Relations section would like to invite you to their first “Court 101” information session to familiarize the community with the basics of the judicial process. This event will be held at City Hall, 110 Laurier Ave W, in the Champlain Room from 1:00pm - 3:00pm. Join them for an interactive learning opportunity with Ottawa Crown Attorney Mark Moors.


April 3, 2019 – Final Public Open House for Earl Armstrong Road EA, Falcon Ridge Golf Club, 4740 High Road, 6-9pm


The City of Ottawa has initiated the Earl Armstrong Road Extension Environmental Assessment (EA) Study to establish the right-of-way requirements for the future extension of Earl Armstrong Road between Albion Road and Hawthorne Road. The EA study will identify the right-of-way requirements for the project, protect the corridor and inform the ongoing planning and development of adjacent lands.
