July 2019

July 17, 2019 | Notice: Spratt Rd Road Closure

From July 17 to July 24, Spratt Road will be closed between Earl Armstrong Road and Cambie Road to accommodate a road repair. There will be detour signs in place along with other traffic control devices to properly close the road and protect worker safety.

July 9, 2019 | Notice: Sewer Cleaning

From July 8 to July 12, sewer cleaning will be happening on the following streets:

  • Marketplace Ave.
  • Riocan Ave.
  • Strandherd Dr.

July 2, 2019 | BASICS: July Courses

This July, the Barrhaven Area Safety Instructional Courses for Students (BASICS) is offering safety and home alone courses for children and youth.

Courses and dates are as follows:

  • My Safe Life for ages 7-10 years of age – Saturday, July 6 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
  • Home Alone Course for ages 10 and over – Saturday, July 13 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

June 20, 2019 | Feedback Needed: Riverside South Youth Survey

If you are a high school student or have a child attending a high school in Riverside South, I invite you to complete this short survey, as I hope to engage youth in the community and provide fun, recreational opportunities. June 13, 2019 | Notice: Anisha Park Repairs

The playground installer for Anisha Park will be correcting some deficiencies with a rope climber that was installed in the playground area. They are scheduled to install a construction fence on Monday, June 10, around the portion of the playground area that they will be repairing. They are planning to work on the site for most of next week and are scheduled to take the fence down on Monday, June 17.

June 5, 2019 | Road Closure: Leitrim Road

Leitrim Road from Albion Road to Bank Street will be closed from 7:00pm Friday, June 21 to 5:00am Monday, June 24. This will be to accommodate the installation of a new storm box culvert. Notification signs will be posted in advance and detour signs will be posted during the closure. Impact to traffic will be moderate.

May 27, 2019 | Thank you!

A big thank you to everybody who came out for my spring clean-up, sponsored by Tomlinson, who provided bags and supplies. We were able to fill 27 garbage bags from waste surrounding the storm water pond at Longfields Drive and Paul Métivier Drive. I appreciate all the volunteers and my staff who took the time to take part in this event. You can clean up your neighborhood too!

Kilspindie Ridge

Starting on Saturday, May 4, 2019 to Sunday, May 5, 2019, Kilspindie Ridge from Longfields Drive to Culloden Crescent. This closure will accommodate the installation of a new sanitary sewer and manhole. Notification signs will be posted. There will be a signed detour.

April 30, 2019 | Seeking Attendees for Playgroup – EarlyON Child and Family Centre

EarlyON Child and Family Centre is seeking attendees for their intergenerational playgroup which happens twice a month at the Revera Prince of Wales Manor at 22 Barnstone Drive. During the month of May, the playgroup will be held on Thursday May 9 and 23 from 10:00am to 11:15am. The benefits of intergenerational playgroups are immense both for the little ones and for the residents of the manor. 



  • Further, develop social skills, have the opportunity to interact with seniors, adults, infants, toddlers and children up to 6 years of age, build new friendships.
  • Further, develop communication, language and literacy skills, give the children and yourself the opportunity to hear and learn from the wisdom and experience of others.
  • Further, develop emotional, cognitive, and physical abilities in a beautiful space provided by the residence.
  • Explore developmentally appropriate toys, crafts, and circle time.
  • Overcome geographical or social isolation from a loving senior in your young family’s life: enable relationships across the generations. 
  • Seniors experience great joy when spending time with children.

A Registered Early Childhood Educator facilitates all playgroups.

April 26, 2019 | Spring Tree Planting

Forestry’s spring planting program is scheduled to begin May 1st and will run, weather permitting, until the end of June. This includes tree planting in parks, at City facilities, and along streets. Tree planting is scheduled on City property adjacent to a residence, individual notifications will be provided to the resident in advance of planting. Residents should also expect to see utility locate flags and paint on the ground prior to planting.

April 11, 2019 | Ottawa Police Update: Riverside South Swarmings

Ottawa Police are investigating 3 recent swarmings in Riverside South in the area of Spratt Road and Canyon Walk. Police say in each incident a young person was jumped by a group who demanded cash and electronics. No physical injuries were reported.

Ottawa Police want to assure residents they are taking the attacks seriously and are working with businesses in the area to monitor activity. They have also increased police presence in the area and an investigation is ongoing. For safety tips, visit

Marketplace Avenue and Sue Holloway Drive

Starting on Thursday, April 11, 2019 to Wednesday, April 17, 2019, Marketplace Avenue from Sue Holloway Drive to Longfields Drive and Sue Holloway Drive from Marketplace Avenue to Lindenshade Avenue. This closure will accommodate sewer relocations and watermain extensions. 


Borbridge Avenue from Mareth Way to Southbridge Street

Starting on Monday, April 15, 2019 to Friday, May 10, 2019, Borbridge Avenue will be closed from Mareth Way to Southbridge Street. This closure will accommodate the installation of sanitary and storm sewers and a watermain.

March 28, 2019 | Recap – March 27, Public Meeting to Discuss Recent Break-ins

VIDEO Thank you to everybody who were able to attend this important meeting to discuss the recent break ins in South Barrhaven and Riverside South. It was an informative discussion with Deputy Chief Steve Bell and your Community Police Officer, Cst. Sherry Jordan. 

As we all know, a rash of break and enters in Barrhaven, StoneBridge and Riverside South has residents on edge. Ottawa Police are investigating, and have made several arrests, but say they need the public's help. During this information session at the Minto Rec Centre in Barrhaven, Ottawa Police shared information and steps everyone needs to take to protect their homes. 

What you can do: 

  • Be the nosy neighbour
  • Set up a neighbourhood watch 
  • Report Suspicious activity
  • Don’t keep valuables in the master bedroom 
  • Buy a safe
  • Don’t answer the door to strangers
  • Invest in good door and window locks
  • Invest in a door bell camera or home security
  • Schedule a home safety audit with Ottawa Police

March 8, 2019 | International Women's Day

I was thrilled to participate in two events celebrating International Women's Day on March 8th, 2019. At the breakfast hosted by Diane Deans, we had a powerful presentation on the tragedy that is Human Trafficking. It was empowering to see so women strong ladies in the room riveted to this presentation. I know that it will spur more conversations on this topic in the future. I was also thrilled to co-host an event celebrating amazing women with Carleton MPP Goldie Ghamari in Riverside South.
